Holiday Traditions In Uptown Shelby
The Christmas Season is upon us.  Uptown Shelby’s holiday festivities on the Court Square hold a rich tradition for young and old in Shelby and our surrounding areas starting the day after Thanksgiving.  November 23rd starts the official holiday season on the court square in Uptown Shelby.  You are invited to join friends and neighbors on the court square for the Community Christmas Tree ceremony that will begin at 7:00pm with music and festivities.  Come early and enjoy all of the other activities happening that night.
The First National Bank sponsored Santa’s House and Toyland begin November 23rd.  Bring your camera!  You and your children are invited into Santa’s house for a personal conversation with Mr. and Mrs. Claus.  Santa’s house is located on the Court Square on Lafayette Street.  Toyland will also open on November 23rd and will be located at 107 W. Warren St. across from the court square.  Santa’s House and Toyland will be open Friday nights November 23rd through December 14th from 5:00pm to 9:00pm.
Don’t miss the experience of a horse drawn carriage ride.  These rides will be available on Friday nights November 23rd through December 21st from 5:30pm - 8:30pm.  Enjoy the holiday tradition of riding in an open-air buggy through the decorated streets of Uptown.  Cost to ride is $10 for adults and $5 for children under the age of 9.
While you’re shopping for holiday gifts, Shop Small and Shop Uptown!  On Saturday, November 24th, Uptown businesses will participate in the Small Business Saturday tradition.  Strategically timed between black Friday and Cyber Monday, make sure to visit Uptown merchants for all your holiday needs and support shopping local.  A festive mood will fill Uptown stores and restaurants all day.
Luminaries will be lit throughout the Court Square on Friday, December 14th.  If you would like to honor or remember a loved one during this time, registration forms will be delivered in November’s City of Shelby utility bills and are also available at Uptown Shelby Association’s office located at 211 S. Trade Street, Shelby.  Each luminary costs $5 and proceeds go to the Christmas Light Fund.
Mark your calendars for the Shelby Christmas Parade on Sunday, December 16th at 3:00pm.  The gathering of friends, family and loved ones offers an excellent opportunity to make new Holiday memories.  The parade will travel south on Lafayette street and begin at the intersection of Lafayette and Sumter Street and end at the intersection of Lafayette and Gardner Street.  If you would like to participate in the parade, the registration period is November 12th through December 3rd.  Applications can be found at www.uptownshelby.orgor at our office.
