Horace Lee Maxwell, Jr.

Mr. Horace Lee Maxwell, Jr. departed this life on Monday, May 19, 2025 at Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta, GA. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on February 27, 1950, to the late Horace Lee Maxwell, Sr. and Donia McDowell Maxwell.

Horace was educated in the city schools of Philadelphia, PA and furthered his education at Hampton University, Hampton, VA, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science.

While at Hampton, he met the love of his life, Anita Lynn Wilson from Shelby, NC. After graduation, he "followed" her to Shelby and the couple was united in matrimony on August 18, 1973.

Horace, a long-time member of Shiloh Baptist Church, was employed by Eaton Corporation and Sprint Telephone Company. After many years of service, he retired in 2015 from Freightliner Corporation, Gastonia, NC. After retirement he worked part-time at Walmart, Shelby, NC, where he was known, admired and loved by many of his co-workers and the store's customers.

In addition to his parents, Horace was preceded in death by his two sisters, Vanessa Maxwell and Mary Maxwell.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 51 years, Anita Maxwell; brother and sister-in-law Earl and Joanne Cornwell; sister-in-law, Beverly Gaines; nephew and nieces Wesley Cornwell, Jessika (Kenneth) Washington and Lawrence Gaines, all of Atlanta, GA; and a devoted cousin, James Davis of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by maternal first cousins, Gail Williams, Willie Zell Johnson and Robert Mitchell, of Forsyth, GA, and Minnie Penn, Barnesville, GA.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 12:00 Noon at Shiloh Baptist Church in Shelby, NC.
