Hospitals provide new services and technology for patients

Carolinas HealthCare System Cleveland and Kings Mountain will introduce several new options when seeking quality care. The new services allow patients to save time and money by staying close to home and seek treatment from local experts. "We are happy to have this opportunity to provide more healthcare options for residents of Cleveland County and surrounding areas," says Brian Gwyn, president of Carolinas HealthCare System Cleveland and Kings Mountain. "The community can continue to receive care close to home and feel confident they are receiving the best care no matter their ailment."
Endobronchial Ultrasound, Cleveland
•An Endobronchial Ultrasound uses a fiber optic scope with an ultrasound probe to see and take samples from inside a patient's lungs. It's used to biopsy areas of concern or possible cancer.
•The outpatient procedure can take about 30 minutes and can help prevent unnecessary surgery. Dr. Mike DeArment with Cleveland Pulmonary and Sleep Associates, part of Carolinas HealthCare System in Shelby, says the technologically advanced treatment also leads to fewer patient complications and provides a more thorough investigation of lymph nodes.
3D Mammography,
Cleveland and
Kings Mountain
•3D mammography examines the breast in greater detail and depth than a traditional mammography, looking for possible areas of concern such as lumps.
• It allows a doctor to visualize small changes in the breast, sooner.
• The exam is no different for the patient than a traditional mammography.
Sleep Medicine,
Cleveland and
Kings Mountain
•Sleep Medicine is designed to evaluate, diagnosis, and treat patients having issues with sleep, particularly sleep apnea.
•Carolinas HealthCare System Kings Mountain continues to offer quality sleep medicine to patients. The service recently expanded to Carolinas HealthCare System Cleveland as well, giving patients another option for sleep medicine.
•Physicians with sleep medicine use the latest technology for an easy diagnosis. They have documented great outcomes for patients, including an improved quality of life. Many patients say they are more productive at work and have fewer accidents after receiving treatment.
Pain Management,
Kings Mountain
•Pain Management treats and manages patients with chronic pain that could derive from a number of causes including an accident, an illness, or a chronic disease.
•The pain management team is expanding and will be able to treat more patients, closer to home. They've added three additional patient rooms, a procedure room, a recovery room and a larger, updated waiting room.
