Hoyt Thomas Deaton

Hoyt Thomas Deaton, age 77, died Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte. Born in Hall County, GA on January 11, 1941, he was the son of the late Oscar Harrison Deaton and Essie Mae Cane Deaton. Hoyt, known better by his family as Papa, was a simple man who loved nothing more than to be on his tractor with a Sun Drop. He worked endlessly, and found joy in being on his farm, surrounded by his grandchildren. His smile was infectious, and he was seldom without it. He was the type of man that lit up a room; spoke softly, but with purpose. He will be dearly missed.

In addition to his parents, Hoyt was preceded in death by his wife Norma Jo Chapman Deaton, their infant daughter, Tonya Renea Deaton and sisters, Shirley Poteat and Ruenette Whitaker.

Hoyt is survived by his son Randall Deaton and wife Tonya of Shelby, one daughter, Cindy Hogston and husband Jeff of Shelby; five grandsons; Zachary Deaton, Austin Hogston, Nicholas Deaton, Zane Hogston and Gunner Hogston; and sisters, Voncil Pridmore and husband Leon of Gaffney, SC, Barbara Blanchard and husband Ronnie of Spartanburg, SC, Betty Sue Lanning of Shelby and Mildred Poteat also of Shelby; two brothers, Robert Deaton and wife Edith Ann and Royce Deaton all of Shelby; and two very special friends, Sue Jenkins and Tom Baxter.

Funeral service will be 12:00 pm on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Sandy Plains Baptist Church with Rev. Chase Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-9:00 pm on Friday, August 24, 2018 at Sandy Plains Baptist Church.
