Hubert Lee Clark

Hubert Lee Clark of Shelby, NC, son of the late Hubert Johnson Clark and Essie Champion Clark, was born January 22, 1938.

Hubert, known to most as "Hub" or "Lee" and to his family as "Papaw," went home to be with the Lord on March 13, 2021 at Wendover House, Shelby. Hubert attended Number 3 High School before enlisting into the U.S. Air Force serving most of his career as a jet mechanic in Suffolk Air Base, Southhampton Long Island, New York, often hitchhiking his way up and down the eastern seaboard for his trips home. After the service, Hubert worked at PPG Industries with 41 years of service, working in the Furnace Rebuild department upon retirement. His expertise as a master welder was beyond compare, having assisted in the manufacturing and the maintenance of the huge furnaces burning still at PPG, Ind. His talent was recognized by his superiors as he was often sent to Colorado, Venezuela and other locations to assist in the training of others. Hubert loved his Lord and was a life-long member of Patterson Springs Baptist Church and formerly an active member of Cleveland Masonic Lodge 202 serving as the District Grand Master and District Grand Lecturer. He lived by the scriptures as he bore boundless fruits of the Spirit; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. He enjoyed playing golf, wood working in his shop and gardening. Before his health failed him, Hub looked forward to the Annual Clark Invitational Golf Tournament held each fall. He spent countless hours building cradles, rocking horses, and rocking chairs for his great-grandchildren. And the hours are too many to number that he sat on his patio admiring the handy work of his garden. Above all else, Papaw's pride and joy were his children, his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. He eagerly awaited the arrival of the newest great-granddaughter, Teagan Marie, due to arrive in early April.

Hubert was preceded in death by his late wife, Beth Pike Clark.

Their children are the late Rev. Dale Lee Clark, daughter Susan Ellen Clark (Jack), and son Cecil David Clark (Phyllis). Hubert is survived by his loving wife Dianne Black Clark and daughters Trina Dellinger (Jack) and Tiffini Molesky (Gregory). His grandchildren are Leah Debner (Tim), Megan Farmer, (Brandt), Amanda Hansis (Chad), Holly Askins (Brian), Emily Hanna (David), Jordan Clark, Ryan Clark (Natalie), Hillary Clark, Philip Molesky and Katelyn Molesky. His great-grandchildren are Olivia, Eaven, and Nathan Debner, Katelynn and Mason Hansis, Madison, Lainey, and Liberty Askins, Ella, Violet, and Everett Hanna, and Elliott and Cooper Clark. He was the baby brother to his four sisters, lovingly referred to as the "Sisterhood," the late Betty Clark Wallace(the late Roland Wallace and the late Max Eaker), Jessie Clark Favell (Bill), Sybol Clark Mauney (the late Don Mauney), and Grace Clark Palmer (Joe and the late Palmer Cannon.) Hubert leaves behind many nieces and nephews to lovingly cherish his memory.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Hubert Lee Clark is scheduled for Wednesday, March 17 2021 at Patterson Springs Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Steve Waters officiating. The family will be in the sanctuary 30 minutes prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of love in honor and memory of Papaw be given to Hospice of Cleveland County for the outstanding care given to Papaw during his recent illness. Lynn, Becky, Cindy, Renee, Elizabeth and Brian, you were the hands and feet of Jesus to our family during our most difficult week at Wendover. A special thank you to Miss Margaret, aka "Papaw's Buddy" from Helping Hands for loving on our Papaw.
