Hugh Lee “Jake” Jolly

Hugh Lee “Jake” Jolly, age 83, died at his home on July 23, 2017 surrounded
by family. A native of Polkville, NC, he was born February 14, 1934.

Hugh began his career as a carpenter, worked 22 years for H L Coble
Construction, and retired from WeaverCooke Construction as Vice-President
after 35 years of service. He was part of a family construction legacy; his
father and brother worked in construction, and presently his son and
grandson follow the tradition.

He enjoyed his family, woodworking, beekeeping, and golf. As a member of
Aldersgate United Methodist Church since 1972, he was active with Scouts,
served as a Trustee, member of the United Methodist Men, Sunday School
teacher, and member of the Building Committee. Hugh also was involved for
many years in the preservation of the Elliott Family Cemetery, the Elliott
Church and Elliott family reunion.

Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Burgess “RB” and Lenna
Elliott Jolly; his sister, Helen Woosley Hamrick; and his brother, Richard
Meredith Jolly.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen Jolly; daughter and
son-in-law, Connie and David Elzey of Gastonia; son and daughter-in-law,
Robert and Miriam Jolly of Hickory; and brother-in-law, Clyde Hamrick of
Barnwell, S.C.; his grandchildren, Justin Morehead and wife, Canaan of
Gastonia; Jay Morehead and wife Bekgah of Raleigh; Anna Elzey and fiancé
Anthony Blake of Raleigh; Lauren Jolly and Ashley Jolly of Hickory; his
great-grandchildren, James Lee Morehead and Eli Michael Morehead of
Gastonia; and Owen Robert Morehead of Raleigh.

The celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 29 at Aldersgate UMC
Sanctuary, 1207 West Dixon Blvd, Shelby.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 12:30
PM.

A private family burial will follow the service at the Elliott Family
Cemetery in Polkville.

Pallbearers are Anthony Blake, Dean Bridges, James Durham, Jay Morehead,
Justin Morehead, Joe Palmer and Eddie Whisnant.

The family request memorials be made to Elliott Family Cemetery, c/o 104
Northeastern Drive, Shelby, NC 28152.
