Hunting with my husband
My husband loves deer hunting season and he wanted me to hunt with him. I wasn’t extremely happy about it, but decided to give it a try. So, I got up at 5:00 am for my first hunt. We were in our stands by sun-up. He was hunting about 500 yards away and I was all alone in a ladder stand listening to squirrels and birds. It was nice to be outdoors, but I wasn’t sure this was my thing. I sat there all day! Nothing... My husband told me to be patient, but that is not one of my best qualities. So, the sun began to go down, I propped my gun up and just leaned up against the tree to relax, hoping he would come and get me soon. All of a sudden I heard a tree limb snap! I turned and looked, there stood a 6 point buck with a 19.5” spread. I had never fired a rifle at a deer. I was shaking, so I propped the gun against the tree, trying to get the scope on him. My husband taught me what to do, and the deer started walking away. So, I made a goat sound and he turned and looked right at me, but I was in full camouflage. I had him in my sights, put the scope on his neck and fired the shot. He fell right over! I was in shock and had to sit down in my stand for a minute to regroup. I called my husband to get there immediately, he had heard the shot. He must have jumped out of his tree. By the time I climbed out of my tree and walked over to see my first kill, my husband was there. I think that was the happiest I’ve ever seen him. He picked me up and twirled me around, then he picked up the 175 lb deer and threw it on the back of the truck. We went home, he skinned it and put blood all over my face which is supposed to be tradition on your first kill. Ladies, please try deer hunting, because it’s something you’ll remember forever. - Story provided by Tammie Horne
