Ida Virginia Watkins Cobb
Ida Virginia Watkins Cobb, of Cliffside, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 14, 2018 at Oakland Living Center in the arms of her daughter. She was the daughter of Clarence and Bonnie Dotson Watkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Cobb, her son, Gary Cobb, and daughter, Sheila Butt. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and David Chauncy of Caroleen, several grand and great-grandchildren, brother, Joe Watkins (Debbie), brother-in-law Dan Wortman and sister-in-law Frances Cobb.
Virginia was a life-long resident of Cliffside. Born on March 13, 1925, she married her high-school sweet heart, Ray in 1942, and together they raised their children surrounded by their extended family and community friends.
She spent her adult years serving the community both in the Cliffside Mill and JC Cowan, using her accounting gift in payroll to help the mill employees care for their families. At her death, she was a part of the church family of Caroleen United Methodist Church.
Paramount for Virginia was a life lived reflective of the Lord she loved. Her service to her church, family, friends and strangers was unparalleled and impacted the lives of everyone she encountered. Whether sharing a word of encouragement, preparing a meal or providing services on the many Red Cross disasters she adventured on later in life, Virginia was known for her generous loving spirit. She received many awards for her volunteer work at American Red Cross, Rutherford Hospital, Hospice, and Chase Corner Ministries.
She will be missed by many, but all who knew her are filled with joy knowing her earthly adventure may have ended, but her heavenly one is beginning.
A service to celebrate her life of service will be held at Caroleen United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 13 at 11:00 AM. There will be no formal visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Caroleen United Methodist Church Building Fund, PO Box 187, Caroleen, NC 28019 or Chase Corner Ministries, PO Box 327 Henrietta, NC 28076.
A special thank you to the staff of Oakland Living Center for the care, patience and love shown to Virginia during her stay and at her passing.
