Representatives from Utility Lines Construction Services (ULCS) visited Cleveland Community College (CCC) on February 8, 2018 to present two pieces of equipment and offer pre-employment agreements to two students currently in the Electrical Lineworker Academy.
"The support this program has received from ULCS and other companies is invaluable," said Alan Qualls, Electrical Lineworker Program Coordinator. "The students see the companies' involvement and interest in the program, and I think it encourages and motivates them to do their best."
ULCS presented the Electrical Lineworker Academy with a mini-excavator and a utility trailer for use in the training program. Several company representatives spoke to the current Academy class about the utility industry and the important work they are training to do.
"ULCS donated the equipment to CCC because we believe in your program," said Jeffrey Vaughn, ULCS Marketing/Retention, Region 102. "With combined efforts we can continually raise the bar on training the entry level lineworker. The equipment we donated today can be used in many facets of training to make a better student, to make a better employee, and to make the industry better as a whole."
After presenting the pieces of equipment, the representatives form ULCS announced that Marty Lockridge and Eric Yount were receiving pre-employment agreements from the company. "We offered two students pre-employment offers today because we feel that reaching out to the students before completion of the program helps to make each student strive to be the best in the class, which makes each class better, which makes the industry better," said Vaughn.
The Electrical Lineworker Academy is a 10-week, job-training program that prepares students for entry-level jobs with utility companies, electrical contractors, and telecommunication companies. CCC is taking applications for the next Academy, which begins April 9, but it is filling up fast. The summer session begins in July. The registration process requires candidates to complete several tasks before the first day of class, so it is highly recommended that those interested contact the Continuing Education Department.
