| Innovative Music To Be Featured During Fall Jazz Festival Concert |

Gardner-Webb School of Performing and Visual Arts
Invites Public to Attend Oct. 24 Performance
Gardner-Webb University’s School of Performing and Visual Arts presents a Fall Jazz Festival Concert, featuring a 15-member GWU Jazz Collective on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 8 p.m. in Dover Theatre, located in the Lutz-Yelton Convocation Center. The event is free and open to the public.
Tony Hayes, instructor in the GWU Fine Arts Department, directs the Jazz Collective. In addition to leading the group, Hayes also teaches jazz improvisation and is considered a standout jazz saxophonist. Dr. Patricia Sparti, chair of fine arts (music division) and professor of music at GWU, calls Hayes one of the best in the field.
“Tony is one of the finest living jazz saxophonists,” said Sparti. “This will be an amazing concert that the entire family will enjoy with lots of swing and even some top 40 radio classics.”
Song selections include In the Stone by Earth, Wind and Fire, Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder, and Blue In Green-So What from Miles Davis.
The concert also features The Ol’ 74 Jazz Band, an 18-member ensemble from Rutherford County, N.C., under the direction of Seth Carson. The band focuses on 1940s swing, but also features rock and other musical genres.
