Irene Elizabeth Callahan Greene, 99, of Boiling Springs, NC, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2022, in the care of Hospice in Cleveland County at Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, North Carolina. Irene was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Callahan on August 8, 1923. She is preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie F. Greene Jr., and her two sons, Don and Jerry Greene. She is survived by her two daughters-in-law, Pat Greene of Boiling Springs, and Pam Greene of Shelby, NC. Also surviving are grandchildren Tregg, (Beth) Trent, and Tristan Greene, and great grandchildren, Weston, Maddax, Parker, Donavan, Austin, Trevor Greene (Tiffany), and Blake Reynolds.

Irene was a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church. She loved the Joy Friendship Class and attended every Sunday as health permitted. Irene had a special friend, Irene Murray, who visited her while she was homebound and would bring her Sunday School literature.

Irene was an excellent seamstress and homemaker. She created numerous beautiful quilts for her family and friends. She always made sure her husband and sons, as well as herself, were impeccably dressed! Her cooking skills provided many baked goods for church suppers and activities. Her home was the center of many family holiday gatherings.

Johnnie and Irene celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the church in 1993. The family also held a 90th birthday celebration for Irene which she enjoyed so much!

God met Irene on September 23 and said to her, "Well done thy good and faithful servant. Go...join your husband and sons and there will be 'Joy in the Morning' for all."

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on October 1, 2022 at Boiling Springs Baptist Church with Ellen Humphries and Tommy Greene officiating the service. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with the Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 p.m. Burial is pending at Cleveland Memorial Park due to inclement weather.
