Irene "Maw Maw" Henson, age 96, of Cliffside, passed away Monday, January 13, 2020 at her residence.

Irene was born April 4, 1923 in Rutherford County to the late Jesse Earl Padgett and Rosa Lee Mitchell Padgett. She was a graduate of Tri-High School and worked for Burlington Mill, Cone Mill and Pennington Rug Mill. Irene was a member of Goodes Creek Baptist Church. She enjoyed taking memorable trips to many different places with her sister. She loved her family dearly and loved taking care of her grandchildren. Irene had a heart for others and lived life to its fullest.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-years, Claude Thomas Henson; an infant daughter, Linda Henson; twin sister, Lorene Dodson and five brothers, James, Barney, Clyde, Earl and Emil Padgett.

Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Janice Hendrix (Jesse) of Cliffside and Kathy Larsen (Don) of Shelby; two sons, Tommy Henson (Carol) of Raleigh and Ronnie Henson (Cindy) of Mooresboro; nine grandchildren, Eric Hendrix (Stephanie), Brian Hendrix, Darrel Bostic (Jennie), Charity Larsen, Derick Bostic (Kim), Lisa Landis (Heath), Jason Henson (Amanda), Brad Henson, Elizabeth Hitchcock (Nick) and eighteen great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Goodes Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Glenn Walker, Reverend Dwayne Scruggs and Reverend Brian Nelon officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
