Iris Horne Maloney, age 81, died Monday, April 24, 2017 at her home. Born in Cleveland County on February 8, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Horace Lee and Clara Ruth Reid Horne. Iris was a member of First Baptist Church and was one of the founding teachers of the First Baptist Daycare Center, where the children lovingly called her "Mrs. Baloney". Iris volunteered for the Feed the Hungry, Body and Soul at the church. She and her husband Bob were Charter members of the Co-ed Sunday School Class, that they loved, and it is still active today and known as the Parlor Sunday School Class. She retired from Union Elementary where she was the Director of the After School Program. Iris was always helping others and never met a stranger. She was Volunteer of the year for United Way, volunteered at Cleveland Pines Nursing Home, where she helped with activities and parties, an original volunteer for Hospice of Cleveland County, and was on the Relay for Life survivor committee. In addition to her parents, Iris is preceded in death by two brothers, Wallace Horne and Henry Horne; and brother-in-law, Jesse Childers.

Iris is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert "Bob" Maloney; a daughter, Pam Helms and husband Wayne of Shelby; a grandson, Alex Helms of Linville; a sister, Genevieve Childers of Greenville; a brother, Garnie Horne and wife Robin of Louisa VA.; sisters-in-law, Marie Horne and Yvonne Horne both of Shelby; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 4:00 pm in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Tench officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Dover Activity Center.
