IRON CITY FESTIVAL COMING TO BLACKSBURG, SC
The Iron City Festival is approaching and the Blacksburg Business Association’s seventh annual event promises more than enough entertainment to fill dozens of rail cars when the entertainment train rolls into town for a stop on April 21.
“We’ve been planning for months, working to grow this year’s festival and make it bigger and better for all to enjoy. We’re always happy to showcase our town when residents and visitors come out to share in this annual day of fun, activities, food, music and many entertaining things to do,” said  George Kirby, president of the BBA.
This year’s schedule will be packed with activities for all ages from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the downtown area.
The return of a car show and the customary tribute to the train industry with a miniature exhibit leave plenty of room for “must do” stops in between.
Toss in some good music, food, vendor shopping and activities for the children in a free kids’ zone with a petting zoo and the day promises to be jam-packed with all a family needs to spend an early spring Saturday in Blacksburg.
A health fair, mobile mammography, miniature train exhibit, petting zoo and inflatables are all free events. A stop at the library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a little browsing of one’s history and genealogy, plus checking out the bookmobile, fire safety house and Cherokee County Sheriff’s Crime Unit can all happen within a couple of blocks in the downtown area.
Concerts nearby will feature Zeb and Virginia Starnes, Behind the Cross, the Jeff Gates Band, Ben Gatlin, Freddie Vanderford, Cadence Band and Tom Fisch.
The annual cake contest always draws a crowd with the area’s best cooks offering the products of their time-tested recipes for judging and tasting.
One highlight of the festival, the car show, is back by popular demand.
Kevin Tessner who is organizing the returning event, said motorcycles and cars, whether custom, stock or vintage will be available for appreciating and judging. Coveted trophies will be awarded in each division.
“I’ve contacted friends to bring their cars and participate, and I’ll be handing out flyers at area car shows to let people know about our event. We’re happy to bring the car show back this year,” said Tessner who can be reached at 864-809-1924 to assist with questions and provide details.
More information about this year’s festival is also available by emailing blacksburgbba7@yahoo.com, by calling Kirby at 864-839-6006 or by visiting the Iron City Festival page at http://www.angelfire.com/sc3/blacksburgbba.
Vendors do not want to miss an opportunity to participate in the growing festival and should use the same contact information to line-up a spot to display and sell their wares.
“We’re planning for a fun day in Blacksburg,” Kirby said.
