Jack Laxton Conner - "Big Dog", age 65 passed away Friday, December 8, 2017 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in Spartanburg, SC.

Jack was active in The Boy Scouts of America, The N.R.A., Rutherfordton Masonic Lodge, Rutherford County Wildlife Club, Gilkey Ruritan Club and was a McNair Foundation Mentor. Jack received his B.L.E.T. from Isothermal Community College and served the local community as Sheriff of Rutherford County, Chief of Police for The Town of Spindale and Fire Chief for the Town of Spindale. He was also a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Kathy Lynn Ware Conner of the home, two daughters - Julie Conner Champion and husband Timothy of Gilkey; Mandy Conner Brown and husband Johnny of Gilkey, one brother-George Lorenzo Conner of Gilkey; three sisters - Joyce Conner Ward of Gilkey, Nancy Conner Hancock of Gilkey, Linda Conner Waters of Sherrill's Ford; grandchildren - Dustin Colt Conner and wife Dusty of Union Mills, Megan Lee Casner and fiancé Brent of Union Mills, Johnny Dillon Hunter of Gilkey, Molly Katherine Hunter of Gilkey, Jack Boyce Brown of Gilkey, Timothy Tyler Champion of Forest City, and Avery Elijah Champion of Forest City, and one great granddaughter Austin Lynn Conner of Union Mills.

He was preceded in death by his parents Avery Laxton and Margaret Magdeline Frady Conner.

Funeral services will be held 1 PM Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Mountain Creek Baptist Church 710 Mountain Creek Road, Rutherfordton, NC 28139 with Rev. Eric Reedy officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites. The family will receive friends from 4 - 7 P.M. Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Mountain Creek Baptist Church.
