Jack Smith McGinnis
Jack Smith McGinnis of Mooresville, NC passed away on Saturday December 8, 2012.  Jack was born near Cliffside, NC in Rutherford County on September 8, 1923.
Jack was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corp in January 1943 and was honorably discharged in February 1946. He served in the European Theater of Operations with the 8th Air Corp stationed in England and Belgium.  After being discharged, Jack graduated from Mars Hill College and Clemson A. & M. College (now Clemson University.) He earned his Masters of Science in Public Health degree from UNC Chapel Hill and spent 30 years in the field of Public Health, retiring as Health Director of the Transylvania County Health Department, Brevard, NC in 1986.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Sarah Laughlin (Sallie) McGinnis.  Jack is survived by his daughters – Claire Piercy and her husband Bruce Piercy of Huntersville, NC and Myra McDonald and her husband Mac McDonald of Greensboro, NC.  Jack also had three grandsons that he loved dearly – Rob and Jay Piercy of Charlotte, NC and Hank McDonald of Clemson, SC.
In addition to his daughters, Jack is survived by his brother Frank E. McGinnis and sisters Sarah McGinnis Wall, Betty Jean McGinnis White, Anne McGinnis Pless and Margaret McGinnis Harrold.
Family and friends will be received at McKinney-Landreth & Carroll Funeral Home, 4076 US Highway 221-A, Cliffside, NC 28024 on December 12, 2012 at 1 o’clock.  A service will follow there at 1:30 with graveside services afterward at Cliffside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Jack’s family requests memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Lake Norman, 705 Griffith Street, Suite 203, Davidson, NC  28036 or Central United Methodist Church, 214 N. Academy Street, Mooresville NC 28115.
