Jacob "Jake" Matthew Ferguson

Mr. Jacob "Jake" Matthew Ferguson, age 45 of Shelby, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Wendover Hospice in Shelby following a brave fight against cancer.
He is survived his loving wife, Verna Messer Ferguson of the home, a son, Seth Matthew Ferguson, also of the home, two brothers, David Ferguson and wife Julie of Waynesville, NC, and Enoch Ferguson and wife Susan of Whittier, NC, nieces and nephews, Haylei, Nikki, Chuckie, and Jonathan.
Born on December 25, 1972 in Milwaukee County, WI., Jacob is the son of Donald Eugene Ferguson and the late Vianna Melz Ferguson and was preceded in death by a brother, Victor Ferguson.
Jake graduated from Swain County High School and later earned his Associates Degree at Haywood Community College. He was a loyal Assistant Scout Master for Troop 101 in Shelby. He also was an AYSO coach and referee in Haywood County and a substitute teacher in Haywood, Cleveland, Lincoln, and Gaston County. Jake was active in the church where he worked with the youth. He enjoyed working with children and spending time with his family and friends. Jake was the kind that never met a stranger and will be missed by those that knew him.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Hope Community Church in Shelby conducted by Rev. Steve Putnam. A second service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, November 18, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Waynesville, NC, conducted by Rev. Owen Fulghum.
Memorial contributions can be made to Boy Scout Troop 101, in care of First Baptist Church, 120 N. Lafayette St., Shelby, NC 28150.
