James Charles Proctor

James Charles Proctor, 57, of Grover NC, passed away on August 6, 2017 surrounded by family at home.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Cleveland Funeral Services with full military honors. A visitation will be held from 1:30 - 3:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
James Charles Proctor was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Clarence Roger Proctor and Joan Margaret Sawyer Proctor on February 4, 1960. He graduated from Crest High School in 1979. He joined the Army on October 17, 1979 at the age of 19 and trained at Ft. McClellan in Alabama as an MP (Military Police Officer). Jim served honorably at multiple duty stations - Ft. Carson, Colorado; Ft. Clayton, Panama; Ft. Monroe, Virginia; Ft. Jackson, SC; Korea; Würzburg, Germany; Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri; and Ft. Stewart, Georgia. He retired November 1, 1999 as an E-6 Staff Sergeant after serving as a Military Police Officer for 20 years. Following retirement from the Army, he served as a Sheriff's Deputy in Greenville County SC in the Uniform Patrol Division, as a School Resource Officer, and retired as a Juvenile Investigator in November 2016.
Jim is preceded in death by his Mother - Joan Margaret Sawyer Proctor, stepmother Martha Roberts Mowery Proctor, and stepbrothers Jim and Tommy Mowery.
Jim is survived by his sons - Jonathon Martin Proctor (wife Amber) of Shelby NC and Christopher Michael Proctor (wife Brooke) of Woodruff SC; Father Clarence Roger Proctor (wife Nancy Blake Proctor) of Shelby NC; sisters - Cathie Proctor Norvell (husband William) of Westminster Maryland and Debra Proctor Huffman (husband Mark and daughter Amanda Weedon) who provided care for him in their home in his final months. Surviving their Pops are Jim's grandchildren who made him smile even on his worst days - Paisley Lauren and Parker Reid Proctor of Shelby, NC and Lily Grace Proctor of Woodruff, SC. Jim is also survived by stepsiblings - Paul Vincent Mowery (wife Belinda); Mary Mowery Crocker; Catherine Mowery Poston; Dale Mowery (wife Pat); and Claire Nell Mowery Way.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National VFW, 406 W. 34th Street, Kansas City, MO 64111.
