James "Jim" Cooke Wilson

James Cooke Wilson, 86, of Shelby, NC, passed away on April 18, 2022 at White Oak Manor in Shelby, NC.

He was born in Sullivan County, TN, son of the late Pete Wilson and Elizabeth Cooke Wilson Sterling, step-mom Mary Carpenter Wilson, and step-father Earl Sterling and was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years Marie Huffman Wilson. Jim was also preceded in death by his second wife of 8 years, Jane Gilreath Wilson. He served his country honorably in the US Navy as a Petty Officer 3rd Class aboard the USS Fred T. Berry and retired from Wix Corporation, Gastonia, NC, with more than 30 years of service. Jim served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon for many years at Love Valley Baptist Church and Bethlehem Baptist Church and was a current member of Ascension Lutheran Church where he attended with his family. One of Jim's favorite Bible verses was Psalm 30:5 "joy comes in the morning". He lived this verse daily, sharing his love for Jesus and could often be found singing hymns in the hallways of White Oak Manor. Jim was a past volunteer firefighter in the Antioch Community and served as a board member for the James Home, one of the Childrens' Homes in Cleveland County. Jim touched the hearts of many people and his memory will continue to strengthen the lives of everyone who knew him.
