James Edward Teddy, Jr.

James Edward Teddy, Jr. passed away on November 10, 2017, following a heroic battle with colon cancer. He was 56 years old. He is survived by his wife Cindy, their sons Brennan and Spencer, and daughter Meredith.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Edward Teddy, Sr. and survived by his mother Grace Wix Teddy of Shelby and his sister Susan Teddy of Kannapolis.

Jim was born James Edward Teddy, on September 3, 1961, in Shelby. He grew up in Shelby and graduated from Shelby High School. Jim attended North Carolina State University and graduated in 1984. Following college, he met Cindy (Cynthia Gilmore). They married in June of 1988 in Shelby.

Jim began his career as a financial advisor in 1986 with Thompson McKinnon Securities in Shelby. He worked with several investment firms throughout his 30 year career. In 1994, he was named as First Vice President of Investments with Interstate Johnson Lane. In 2013, Jim was honored to become a Financial Advisor with Granzow Consulting Group, a division of Wells Fargo.

Jim was dedicated to his community. He was an lifetime member of the Shelby Presbyterian Church serving as a Deacon. He served on the Dover Foundation YMCA Board of Directors, Project Member of the Shelby Civitan Club, and was past President of the Lions Club. He was also an accomplished musician and played with the Frank Love Orchestra.

Although Jim's career was based in the world of finance, his real gift was making those he touched become part of his family. A birthday wish, a holiday cheer was always a welcomed, signature gift from Jim to his clients and friends.

Jim had many passions including his career, music, community, and friends, but his family was the light of his life. Spending time with his wife and children was Jim's favorite pastime.

Jim was a loving husband, nurturing Dad, and loyal friend who will be deeply missed.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday November 14 at Shelby Presbyterian Church with Dr. Luke Harkey officiating. The family will receive friends following service in the Ellis Hall.
