James Eugene Goins, Jr. (Gene), 64, passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2022 from an unexpected heart attack.

A native of Lincoln Co., he was born to the late James E. Goins, Sr and Ruth Silver Goins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Sonny Goins and his father-in-law John Carroll Bridges.

Gene is survived by his wife, Susie Goins, of the home, sisters Cindy Wehunt of Newton and Bobby Lou Clarey of Cherryville, mother-in-law Glennett Bridges, brother-in-law Michael Bridges and his wife Margie as well as many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Gene worked for many years at Lail's Upholstery and for the last 10 years was a custodian/bus driver for the Cleveland County School System.

The simplest pleasures brought Gene great joy. He loved NASCAR, the Atlanta Braves, gospel music, naps in his recliner and spending time with his beloved chihuahua Bella. He never met a stranger and delighted in making those around him laugh.

In recent discussions after his own bout with Covid about the need to avoid large gatherings, a memorial service will not be held at this time,

In lieu of flowers, nothing would please Gene more than donations to Crossroads Rescue Mission 206 Mt Sinai Church Road Shelby, NC 28152.

Rejoice with us in knowing that Gene, though absent from us, is in the arms of Jesus.
