James Guy Spangler

James "Jim" Guy Spangler, 83, of Shelby, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Wendover Hospice in Shelby, North Carolina.

Born in Cleveland County on February 18, 1943, James was the son of the late Albert Deaver Spangler and Evelyn Mauney Spangler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Spangler.

Jim graduated from Shelby High School in 1961 and spent many years working at Dover Mill and later at Reliance Electric. He was a hardworking man who found joy in life's simple pleasures and never met a stranger.

One of Jim's greatest enjoyments was hosting yard sales, where he looked forward to visiting with his many regular customers and friends. A faithful member of Ross Grove Baptist Church, James lived a life centered on faith, family, and friendship.

Jim leaves behind his beloved wife of 63 years, Dianne Rollins Spangler; his daughters, Beth Hamrick and husband Brian, and Vickie Johnson and husband Scott; his cherished grandchildren, DJ Hamrick and wife Summer, Jacob Hamrick and wife Chantelle, Devon Eaker, Andy Johnson and wife Amber, and Lucas Johnson and wife Natalie; his precious great-grandchildren, Paisley Hamrick, Grayson Johnson, Carson Johnson, Kolson Johnson, and Oliver Johnson; and his sister, Mary Ferguson. He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 27, 2026, at Ross Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Marcus McGill officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Wendover Hospice for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Jim's family during his final days.
