James "Jake" Walter Campfield, Sr.

James "Jake" Walter Campfield, Sr., age 89, of Wiseman Street, Mooresboro, died Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

Jake was born December 13, 1929 in Rutherford County to the late Odell Campfield and Mattie Smart Campfield. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served honorably during the Korean War. Jake worked for Burlington Industries for forty-seven years until retirement. He was a faithful member New Bethel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and on the building and grounds committee. Jake loved to go camping, travelling and the outdoors.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two wives, Martha Jane Campfield and Virginia Branch Campfield; one son, Jimmy Campfield and two brothers, Thomas Campfield and Charles Campfield.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Dennis Campfield (Kathy) of Boiling Springs, NC; three sisters-in-law, Atrice "Red" Thompson, Freida Campfield and Peggy Campfield; daughter-in-law, Cindy Campfield of Ellenboro; three grandchildren, Russ Campfield (Crystal), Scott Campfield (Kelly Yelton) and Christy Bailey (Daniel); two step-sons, Junior Branch (Peggy) of Six Points and Chris Branch (Myra) of Harris. He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Greg Qualls officiating. Interment will follow at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with the Rutherford County Honor Guard providing military honors. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
