James "Jim" McNary Spigner, Jr.

James "Jim" McNary Spigner, Jr., age 65, passed away on April 12th at his home in Blacksburg, SC.

Born June 28, 1955 he was the son of the late James McNary Sr. and Juliette LaBorde Spigner. Jim served the latter part of his career as a Mine, Safety and Health Representative for the NC Department of Labor Mine and Quarry Bureau, inspecting mines and leading Safety Law School seminars and training efforts. He was a nature enthusiast who had a deep love for the marsh, ocean and fishing. He also enjoyed hunting and the peaceful sound of the woods and outdoors. Jim attended Winthrop University, earning a degree in Business Management and many lifelong relationships, including that of his wife of 41 years. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend like no other, who will be missed by all who knew him.

Jim is survived by his wife, Karen Humphries Spigner, 3 daughters Meghan Dalton, husband Michael; Farrell McTeer, husband Jeff; and Olivia Garrett, husband Marc. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Claire and Lydia Dalton, Jack and Nora McTeer and Dylan Garrett. In addition, he is survived by his sister Carroll Spigner Bruno and husband Lucien V. Bruno III.

The Spigner family will receive friends and family at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 24, 2021 in the Memorial Garden directly behind The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 502 W Sumter St, Shelby, NC 28150. A celebration of life service will follow at 3:00 pm.
