James "Jim" Richard Lackey, age 83 died Friday, December 22, 2017 at Carolinas Healthcare Cleveland. Born in Iredell County on October 4, 1934, he was the son of the late Marvin Luther and Bessie Sharpe Lackey. Jim was an active member of Beulah United Methodist Church where he served as a lay leader for many years. He graduated from NC State with a degree in Engineering. Jim was a civil engineer at PPG and then went into electronic sales for Red Lion in Charlotte. In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Rebecca "Becky" Miller Lackey; three sisters, and a brother.

Jim is survived by, a daughter, Elyn Lackey Hopper of Gastonia, a grandson, James Lee Hopper of Gastonia, and several loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Beulah United Methodist Church with Jeff Lynn officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 27, 2017 from 6:00 to 7:30pm at the Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory.
