Mr. James "Jimmy" Edward Tucker, age 84, of Shelby, NC passed away peacefully at home on January 9, 2019. He was born on August 3, 1934 and was the only child of the late Ralph Jackson Tucker and, Elizabeth Borders Tucker. He was a member of the Class of 1953 at Shelby High School where he was a 3 sport athlete playing basketball, football, and baseball. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force where he was stationed at Warner Robbins Air Force Base in Macon, Georgia.

He married the love of his life, Florence Anne Washburn on July 28, 1957. After being honorably discharged from the USAF he attended Kings College in Charlotte, NC majoring in Accounting. He worked for Petroleum World in Cliffside, NC for over 40 years where he was a salesman and the manager of the motor oil division.

He has been a faithful member of Westview Baptist Church since 1968 where he served as Deacon Chair, Treasurer, and Sunday school Secretary.

He was a member of the Shelby Lions Club where he served as President multiple times. He received the distinguished honor of being named Lion of the Year, and also received the Melvin Jones Fellow and Jack Stickley Fellow awards.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Florence Anne Washburn Tucker, their only child, Michael Andrew Tucker and wife, Tina Huntley Tucker; four grandchildren, Hunter (Tiffany), Savannah, Meredith and Caroline and one great grandchild, Keagan Luke, all of Shelby, NC.

The family would like to recognize the love, care and dedication of Emily Gantt, ANP-C, Myra Ridings, MOA of Shelby Medical Associates and Kim, Carla and the staff of Kindred at Home.

Funeral Service will be held 1:00 pm on Monday, January 14, 2019 at Westview Baptist Church with the Dr. Rick Bowling officiating. Receiving of friends will be Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 2:00-4:00 PM at Cecil Burton Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow the service in Clevland Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors.
