James Lindsay (J. L.) Hamrick

James Lindsay (J. L.) Hamrick, age 64, passed away July 5, 2017 at the Valor Hospice at the George Charles VA Medical Center in Asheville. Born in Cleveland County March 19, 1953, he was the son of the late Hilary and Helen Morehead Hamrick.

L. lived his entire life in Cleveland County. After graduating from Burns High School he joined the Navy and saw the world. He graduated college at Western Carolina University and taught school for nine years in the Shelby City School System, then began his 25 year career as a salesman until his death. He was well-known in the Carolinas for his knowledge of antique wooden boats. J. L. was a charter member and past president of the Blue Ridge Chapter of The Antique and Classic Boats Society.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sue Cline Hamrick, and two sons; John Hamrick and wife Sally of Shelby, and Lindsay Hamrick and wife Jessie of Shelby. His pride and joy were his nine grandchildren; Brett, James, Hattie, Will, Olivia, Samantha, Holly, Lex, and Lindsay Grace. J.L. is also survived by two brothers; Bernard Hamrick and Ed Hamrick and his wife Jeanne; brothers and sisters-in-law; Debi and Mills Curry, Johnnie and Doug Ingle, Peggy and Dennis Goforth, and Linda and Toby Thrift.

Memorial service will be 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 9, 2017, at Elizabeth Baptist Church with Dr. Rit Varriale and Rev. Doug Pruett officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30pm until 3:00pm.
