James Porter, age 72, of Mooresboro, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
James was born Saturday, December 30, 1950 in Rutherford County to the late James Luther Porter and Ora Biggerstaff Porter. He served honorably in the U.S. Army and was a graduate of Cleveland Community College. James worked at Cone Mills for thirty-five years before retirement. He was a member of Sandy Level Baptist Church. His favorite pastime was rabbit hunting.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Skyler Deaton and a brother, Richard Porter.
Those left to cherish fond memories include his loving wife of fifty-two years, Mary Luckadoo Porter; son, Darren Porter (Crissie) of Gaffney, SC; daughter, Lisa Hendrick (Terry) of Shelby; grandchildren, Blake Deaton, Baylee Hendrick, Dawson Porter; great-granddaughter, Jurnee Deaton; sisters, Diann Hoppes, Shirley Hoppes, Sandra Howard, Brenda Newton and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, March 22nd at the Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Tim Elmore officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 12:30 pm at the funeral home on Wednesday before the service.
