Mr. James Taylor Russell, age 81 of Shelby, Passed away Friday, March 18, 2016 at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma (Willis) Russell of the home, a daughter, Dolores Butler and husband Earl of New House, NC, a granddaughter, Lavonda Whitener of Shelby, NC, two great grandchildren, Cierra Hopper and Damond Morris, both of Shelby, NC, a sister, and Frances Dalton of Marion, NC.
Born April 8, 1934 in McDowell County, Mr. Russell was the son of the late David and Lavada (Sneed) Russell Thomas and was preceded in death by his first wife, Audrey Jean Roland Russell.
Mr. Russell loved serving the Lord. He was a member of Way of the Cross Freewill Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and a Sunday school teacher. He was a loving and devoted husband. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family and friends.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:30 PM Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2:30 PM conducted by Rev. Keith Webb. Burial will be held at a later date.
