James "Tony" Hipps

Mr. James "Tony" Hipps, 57 of Shelby, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Benita Hawkins Hipps of the home, children, Joey Glenn Hoyle and wife Tiffney of Blacksburg, SC and Chelly Hoyle Peeler and husband Andy of Shelby, NC, two grandchildren, Aiden Hoyle and Ashlyn Peeler, two brothers, Brian Hipps and wife Patti of Shelby, NC and Mark Hornbuckle and wife Dawn of Shelby, NC, three sisters, Lynn Ann Hipps of Shelby, NC, Rita Lynn Dyer and husband Alan of Kings Mountain, NC, and Rhonda Stokes and husband Ron of Gastonia, NC, a step-mother, Judith Hipps of Shelby, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born July 8, 1959 in Cleveland County, Mr. Hipps was the son of Paul Kenneth Hipps and the late Shirley Morrison Dixon.
Mr. Hipps served in the U.S. Army Artillery as a Forward Observer. He enjoyed tinkering and inventing things. Tony was a genius when it came to working with mechanical devices. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held 3:30 pm Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Shelby Missionary Methodist Church conducted by Rev. David Black. A visitation will be held from 2:00 - 3:30 pm prior to the service at the church and other times at the home of Benita Hipps. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
