Jean Anders Vickers, age 71, of Gardenia Lane, Rutherfordton, NC formerly of Vine Street, Forest City, died Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at her residence.
Jean was born March 17, 1941 in Rutherford County, NC to the late James Avery Anders and Doris Hargett Anders. She was a graduate of R-S Central High School, class of 1959 and a member of New Beginnings Baptist Church. She worked for over 30 years for Stonecutter Mill and for Smith Drugs for several years. Jean enjoyed writing, reading, needlework, scrapbooking, gardening, flowers and going to the Outer Banks.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Bobby Dean Vickers; one brother, Robert Anders and one sister, Nancy Ruppe.
Survivors include one son, Michael Kevin Vickers of Ellenboro; two daughters, Elizabeth Vickers Getty of Asheville and Crystal Denise Tate and life-partner, Richard Dobbins of Bostic. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Shane Gettys, Lauren Gettys, Aaron Vickers and Ashlyn Vickers.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 4, 2013 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Paul Simpson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at Southern Baptist Church Cemetery on a later date.
