Jean Bivens Carpenter, age 88 of St. Mark's Church Rd. passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at Peak Resources.

She was born April 6, 1934 in Gaston County, NC to the late John Marshall and Sue Etta Dabbs Bivens. Jean was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. She was employed for over 30 years at Mary Jo's cloth shop. She loved sewing and making dolls. Jean enjoyed fishing at the Outer Banks and was passionate about gardening. She loved flowers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Hugh Carpenter, Sr.; daughter-in-law, Rachel Carpenter; and siblings, John Bivens, Shirley Hayes, Ray Bivens, Velda Williams, Ruby Lail, Betty Jo Bivens, Tommy Bivens, and Richard Bivens.

Survivors include her children, Libby Wyont, Ernest Carpenter Jr., and Todd Carpenter (Sandy); sister, Pat Smith (Charles); grandchildren, S. Shane Wyont, Christopher Wyont, Michael Humphries, and Emma Heavner.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 17, 2022 at 3:00 PM at St. Mark's Lutheran Church with Rev. Malcolm Lerch officiating. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 to 2:45 PM prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
