Mr. Jerry Deams Hoyle of 405 Country Club Acres, age 70, died peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Monday, December 10th, 2018 at his home in Kings Mountain. A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of Mr. Hubert Hoyle and Ms. Helen Poston Hoyle. He was a 1966 graduate of Shelby High School and a 1968 graduate of Gardner-Webb Junior College. He received a B.A. Degree in Education in 1970 from Wake Forest University and a Masters Degree in Administration in 1980 from UNC-Charlotte.

He was a teacher at Central School for 10 years, an assistant principal for 3 years, a principal at Kings Mountain Junior High for 7 years, a principal at Kings Mountain Middle School for 2 years and a principal at East Elementary School for 16 years. While a teacher in Kings Mountain, Hoyle devoted nights to also instruct Adult High School and ESL classes for Cleveland Community College in Shelby, Kings Mountain and Casar. A dynamic member of the community, Mr. Hoyle was a member and past President of the Kings Mountain Kiwanis Club since 1987. Jerry Hoyle was dedicated to his church and its members, the First Baptist Church of Kings Mountain, where he served in numerous capacities from Deacon Chairman to Sunday School Teacher for 25 years.

An avid scholar of history, Jerry Hoyle was a voracious reader and a lifelong learner. In 2003 he and his wife, Ann, took a 33-day journey around the globe to visit their daughter and family in Bangladesh, their first time overseas. He subsequently traveled to France and Belgium, reveling in sites of antiquity, while also sharing his good humor and cheerful disposition with all those he met. He is remembered fondly by the many people whose lives he touched, who cherished his friendship, counsel and patient wisdom.
