Jerry Leon Smith Senior passed into Heaven February 23, 2017 at the age of 82. Born on June 20, 1935 in Cleveland County he was the son of the late William and Novella Greene Smith. His working career of over 50 years was spent in various textile manufactures. He is preceded in death by grandson Matthew, brothers Carl, Harold, and Charles Smith and a sister, Linda Bowen.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 62 years, Sara Ellis Smith, two sons, Leon Smith (Ginger) of Fallston, Scott Smith (Teresa) of Grover, and a daughter, Cindy Aguero (Alvaro) of Fallston. Jerry is also survived by grandchildren Jennifer Petty (Glenn), Athena Smith (Michele), Christie Mellon, Holly and Emily Aguero, Duncan Smith (Meagan), Erica Gardner (Justin), and Zane Smith; a brother, Donald Smith, and a sister, Brenda Dover.

Other survivors include 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Monday, February 27 2017 at Putnam Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Bryan Glisson officiating. Burial will follow at Patterson Spring Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm.
