Jerry Wayne Black

Jerry Wayne Black, 70 of Shelby passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at home after a long battle with cancer.

Jerry was born in Shelby, NC to Roy Lee Black and Catherine R. Black

He was preceded in death by his wife Kathy M. Black, and son Brian Lee Black.

A 1971 graduate of Shelby High School, he retired from Fox Distributing as warehouse manager where he took pride in being a hard worker and providing for his family. He spent almost 40 years married to his high school sweetheart before she was lost to cancer.

In his later years Jerry enjoyed attending SOS in North Myrtle Beach with his girlfriend Kathy and their special friends. Before cancer took his strength you would find him and Kathy enjoying long motorcycle rides with their friends. Jerry took pride in keeping his yard well kept. He enjoyed time on his back porch cooking and spending time with family.

Left to cherish his sweet memories are longtime girlfriend Kathy Champion of Shelby NC; daughter Jennifer Heavner and husband Jeff Heavner of Shelby, NC; son, Brett Black and longtime spouse Julie Compher of Clayton, NJ; Grandchildren, Brandon Black and Addison Black of Clayton, NJ, Hayden Heavner, Harrison Heavner, and Stevie Kate Heavner of Shelby, NC; brothers, Larry Black of Shelby, NC and Terry Black (Pam) of Shelby, NC.

The family would like to give thanks to our wonderful neighbors and friends who have helped us through this difficult time as well as Hospice and all the wonderful healthcare members who have touched Jerry's life.

To honor the life of Jerry, the family will receive friends at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home & Crematory on Monday, February 5, 2024 from 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM. A comital service will immediately follow at Cleveland Memorial Park beginning at 3:00 PM.

Memorial donation may be made in his memory to VIA Health Partners founded as Hospice Cleveland County: 951 Wendover Heights Dr. Shelby, NC 28150.
