Jesse Weldon Thackerson

Jesse Weldon Thackerson, age 77, of Shelby was called to his heavenly home on November 7, 2021 while surrounded by family at home.

Born in Lawndale, NC on September 11, 1944 he was the son of the late Davie and Millie Earwood Thackerson. He was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Farrell Thackerson and McClure Thackerson as well as his sister, Joyce Floyd.

Jesse is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Dianne Hayes Thackerson, his three daughters, Angela Ramsey (Ren) of Shelby, NC, Dawn Pribble (Jimmy) of Shelby, NC and Michelle Neisler (Paul) of Mount Juliet, TN, a sister Lura McNeilly of Lawndale, ten grandchildren Taylor Black (Austin) of Kings Mountain, Brooklyn Dixon (Darin) of Shelby, Chance Ramsey of Charlotte, Erin Neisler of Mount Juliet, TN , Karley Towery (Lucas) of Lattimore, Millie Ramsey of Lynchburg, Va, James Pribble of Shelby, Celia Grace Pribble of Shelby, Paxton Tallent (Whitney) of Hudson, Joseph Tallent (Carly) of Shelby, three great grandchildren Lane Dixon, Jordy Black, and Rylee Towery, a special caretaker Lilly Wray and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Jesse worked and retired from Freeman Gas in Shelby, NC. After retirement he enjoyed volunteering at the hospital, several schools, and with the church backpack ministry. He loved serving and ministering to others. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an active member of Elizabeth Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, RA leader, Senior Adult Choir member, prison ministry, prayer team, and in many other areas.

He was also an active worker for the Piedmont Museum and member of the Shelby Lions Club.

Jesse will lie in state on Wednesday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home, Fallston.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Rose Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Jim Brackett and Dr. Rit Varriale officiating.
