Jimmy "Chip" Childers
Jimmy "Chip" Childers, age 84, of Forest City, NC, passed away Friday, March 15, 2019 at his residence.
Jimmy was born February 5, 1935 in Rutherford County to the late Paul B. Childers and Bertha McEntire Childers. He was a graduate of Tri-High School, class of 1954 and worked for Sonoco Crellin for forty years before retiring. He was a longtime and faithful member of the Caroleen United Methodist Church. Chip was a three-sport star in high school. He went on to play semi-pro baseball in Valdosta, Georgia. He returned shortly thereafter to marry the love of his life, Ruby. Chip enjoyed bowling in his younger years and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren in all their sporting events. He also was actively involved in coaching little league baseball for many years. Jimmy was a dedicated husband, father and paw paw.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Huntley and four brothers, Rafford, Dean, Donnie and Jerry Childers.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of almost sixty-four years, Ruby Hensley Childers; son, Randy Childers and wife, Lisa of Forest City; daughter, Joy C. Funderburke and husband, Ronny of Kings Mountain; four grandchildren, Kristyn Dedmon (Kevin) of Shelby, Trey Funderburke (Jana) of Greenville, SC, Zac Funderburke of Kings Mountain and Ben Childers of Forest City.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2019 at the Caroleen United Methodist Church with Reverend Norma Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall one hour prior to service time.
