Jimmy Dean Dixon, Jr

Jimmy Dean Dixon, Jr, 67, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Atrium Health Kings Mountain.

Jimmy was born on August 5, 1959, in Cleveland County and was the son of Jimmy Dean Dixon, Sr. and the late Annie Laura Williams Dixon. He was a member of New Bethel Church in Shelby.

Jimmy Dean was a talented man who enjoyed wearing his denim overalls and giving hugs to his family. For many years, he served as his mother's faithful assistant, and his daddy's right-hand man doing much of the heavy lifting and pouring ceramics for the family business, Dawn's Busy Hands / Grannie Annie's.

While a large portion of his time was devoted to being Grannie Annie's number one helper, Jimmy Dean possessed a remarkable talent of his own. At any given time, his personal space could be found filled with his hand-drawn artwork, almost always proudly signed, "Jimmy Dean Dixon, Jr." Comics were his specialty, and each character was uniquely his own creation. They were strong, brave, and bold--not unlike Jimmy Dean himself and the way he navigated this world.

Outside of his art, Jimmy Dean's greatest joy was his family. He cherished them dearly and spent many years with a camera close at hand, ready to capture the moments and memories of those he loved most.

While his days were not always easy, they were never wasted. What a gift it was to know Jimmy Dean.

Jimmy was a loving brother to his two sisters, Barbara Edwards of Shelby and Heather Dixon of Shelby; three nieces and a nephew, Jed Edwards and wife, Christy, of Palm Bay, Florida, Andie Jo Guffey and husband, Jason, of Shelby, Laurie Dixon of Shelby, and Aly Jones and husband, Matthew, of Shelby; eight great-nieces and great-nephews, Elijah Edwards, Isaiah Edwards, Jeremiah Edwards, Lincoln Guffey, Jacob Guffey, Olivia Guffey, Delilah Jones, and Silas Jones; and a great-great-niece, Ellie Monjaras.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 11:30 AM at New Bethel Church in Shelby, with the Rev. Aaron Hinton officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service.
