Jo Ann Byers Ridings passed away peacefully at Wendover Hospice in Shelby, on Tuesday, September 26, 2023.

She was a native of Cleveland County and the daughter of the late Arthur Benjamin Byers and Gertie Bivins Byers.

Jo Ann worked many years for J & C Dyeing as a winder operator in addition to taking care of her home, her husband, and her six boys. "Words cannot describe her" and "beloved mother and grandmother" are just two ways her children depict her. In addition to her many responsibilities, Jo Ann found time to cook dinner each night while her boys were growing up. She loved big Sunday dinners and playing softball afterwards with her family. She enjoyed going to the Cleveland County Fair two or three times each year. Jo Ann was an exceptional bowler and she enjoyed shopping with Nancy, her shopping buddy. She adored the beach and spent hours enjoying the restaurants, the shopping, and the atmosphere at the coast.

Jo Ann is survived by her sons, Alan Ridings (Patti), Gene Ridings (Teressa), Jody Ridings (Diedra), David Ridings, and, Michael Ridings (Liane); ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and special sister-in-law and best friend, Nancy Ridings.

In addition to her parents, Jo Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Jack Andrew Ridings, Sr., son, Jack Andrew Ridings, Jr., and great-grandson, Hunter Austin Ridings.

The family wishes to express their appreciation for the love and care shown to Jo Ann by the VIA Health Partners founded as Hospice Cleveland County and their compassionate staff.

A memorial service will be Monday, October 2, 2023 at 6:30 PM in the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home & Crematory. There will be a visitation from 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM at the funeral home, prior to the service.
