Jo Elaine Mauney Haynes

Jo Elaine Mauney Haynes, age 85 of St. Mark's Church Road, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. She was born April 23, 1936 in Gaston County to the late Coy and Alice Elizabeth Beam Mauney. Jo was an active member of Shady Grove Baptist Church where she served as assistant treasurer. She retired after 37 years of teaching math which included time at Tryon High School and then Bessemer City High School. She also coached girls' basketball. Teaching was her passion, and she enjoyed her years spent at the school. Jo also enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, and quilting. Two of her favorite pastimes were fishing and watching ball games.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Bridges.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Hoyle Lester Haynes; sons, Harlan Haynes (Elizabeth LeGrande) and Vincent Haynes (Regina); siblings, Dalton Mauney (Lucille), Mary Lou Bridges Mauney (Dennis M.), Dennis E. Mauney (Penny), and Sharon Mauney Allen (David); grandchildren, Alan Haynes, Misty Chick, Lucas Haynes, and Carson Haynes; great grandchildren, Zachary, Kayla, Aiden, Brixton, Caroline, and Grayson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Shady Grove Baptist Church from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in the sanctuary.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 6, at 2:00 PM at Shady Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
