Joan Moore Nolan

SHELBY - Joan Moore Nolan, age 82, passed away peacefully at home July 13th 2018, after a short period of declining health.
She was born June 1st 1936, in Cleveland County, the only child of the late Ernest Nolan and Rosalie Moore Nolan.
She was a graduate of Shelby High School, Gardner-Webb College, and Appalachian State Teacher's College. Her teaching career began with nine years in Elkin, NC, and the remainder in Cleveland County schools, including Waco and Washington Elementary.
Joan loved travel and visited all 50 states, as well as many countries of the world, including England, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.
Her love for animals was shared with six beloved cats: Maggie, Marty, Molly, Annie, Buddy, and Opie, who provided many years of affection, companionship, and entertainment.
Joan was a sweet spirit with a big and generous heart, supporting many Christian organizations, her church, children's charities, veterans support groups, and animal protection services throughout her life. She was a faithful member of Westview Baptist Church for many years.
Survivors include: cousins Debra A. Rogers, Chris Rogers and wife, Deborah, Nancy Clary, Donice Holmes, Marilyn Ferree, Norma Poston, and husband, Dan, Max Nolen and wife, Eileen. Dear friends include: Faye and Don Cooke, Tammie Burnett and children Josh and Jessie, Vickie and Brett Elliott and son Ryan, and Pat and Eddie Greene.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2018 at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel with Reverend Rick Bowling officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following service at the funeral home. Interment will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Cleveland Memorial Park.
