Joann Hawkins Hollifield, age 65, of Trojan Lane, Forest City, NC, died Sunday, January 20, 2013 at her residence.
Joann was born August 4, 1947 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Paul T. Hawkins and Madelyne “Matt” Scruggs Hollifield who resides in Forest City. Joann was a graduate of Chase High School, class of 1965 and a member of Sandy Mush Baptist Church. She was a homemaker who enjoyed shopping, helping others and spending time with her grandchildren. She also attended Caroleen Baptist Church.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband of forty-four years, Steve Hollifield; sister in-law, Agnes Hawkins and one infant great grandson, Andre Moore, Jr.
Besides her mother, she is survived by, one son, Brian Hollifield and wife, Betty; one daughter, Stephenie Hollifield all of Caroleen; two brothers, Jimmy Hawkins and Tim Hawkins and wife, Kim also of Caroleen; five grandchildren, Tiffanie Spears, Tyler Spears, Brent Hollifield, Kelsey Hollifield, Rodney Deal; two great-grandchildren, Kadyn Spears, Keyanah Spears and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Lanny J. Funchess officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside. The body will lay in state at the funeral home during business hours on Wednesday and up to noon on Thursday.
