JoAnn Pitts Smart, age 83, of Dobbinsville Road, Ellenboro, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Prisma Health in Greenville.

JoAnn was born Monday, April 18, 1938 in Rutherford County to the late Preston Allen Pitts and Jenny Hollifield Pitts. She was a graduate of Tri-High School, class of 1956 and worked for Burlington Industries-Caroleen Plant for over thirty-five years. JoAnn was a faithful member of High Shoal Baptist Church. She enjoyed baking cakes, family cookouts, bluegrass gospel music and especially spending time with her family and church family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years, Oliver Smart and her siblings, Dewey Pitts, Bill Pitts, Cophelia Frazier and Ann Bass.

Left to cherish fond memories include her two daughters, Robin Dobbins (Bruce) and Rhonda Byers (Randy) all of Ellenboro; son, Jimmy Smart (Renee) of Mooresboro; and a sister, Sybil Fisher. She is also survived by grandchildren, Amie Hardin (Jason), Cassie Humphries (Charlie), Tyler Smart (Carlie), Parker Smart (Carlee) and great-grandchildren, Landon Fagan, Laela Humphries, Chloe Hardin, Grayson Smart.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, April 18, 2022 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Shane Adkins and Reverend Ricky Poteat officiating. Interment will follow at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
