Joe Zeeke Greene

Joe Zeeke Greene, 83, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Hospice Wendover in Shelby, NC.

Born in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Joe Frank Greene and Mary Louise Beason Greene. He was also preceded in death by his great-grandson, Christian Harold Greene.

Joe was a loving husband, daddy, granddaddy, and great granddaddy. A proud member of Pleasant City Church in Shelby, he enjoyed greeting members on Sunday mornings and took pride in making everyone feel welcome. Known for his sense of humor, he often introduced himself as "Mean Joe Greene," And when asked how he was doing, he would always reply, "If I was any better, I couldn't stand it."

Joe retired from the Lance Corporation after a successful career in sales, during which he traveled extensively to help grow the company's reach. One of his proudest accomplishments was securing a contract with Mr. Sam Walton.

After retirement, Mr. Joe remained a beloved figure in the community. He spent his days at Shelby City Park as the conductor of the park train and carousel, bringing joy to neighborhood children with every ride. His light and joyful spirit will continue to shine in the lives he has left behind.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Stella Pearson Greene; his children, Tammy Greene (Chris) and Kelly Greene; as well as his grandchildren, Christopher Joe Greene (Elizabeth), Wesley Greene (Haley), Cameron Willis (Pamela), and Logan Willis (Chelsea). He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren: Casey, Collin, Anna, Caleb, Ada, Emma, Bella, Zeeke, Max, Waylon, Remy, Brixton, Casen, and Eliana. Also left to cherish his memory is his brother, Kennith Greene (Kathy), and his nephew, Phill Greene (Kathi).

To celebrate Joe's life, the family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM in the Worship Center of Pleasant City Church in Shelby. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Bryan Glisson and Pastor Gary Marburger. Burial will follow the service at Cleveland Memorial Park.
