Born in Cherryville, NC on August 19, 1929, he was the son of the late Floyd Lee Mauney and Lula Beam. Joel is survived by his son Duane Joel Mauney, an attorney in Washington, DC, as well as by a sister-in-law, Eloise Mauney of Cherryville, nieces and nephews he adored, special family friend Gary Kloosterman of Shelby, and exemplary caregivers who kept Joel and Jo Ann comfortable and safe.

A funeral service will be held 2:00PM Wednesday October 19, 2022 at the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Jeremy Peeler officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service in Cleveland Memorial Park.
