John Black

John Black, 69, of Shelby, NC passed away on May 4, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the late John Frank Black and Martha Lucille Burch Black, and father and mother-in-law Roger Bridges and Muriel Bridges and sister-in-law, Phyllis Bridges.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ellie Bridges Black, his children, Shannon Black (Heather), Eric Black (Staci), Jeff Black (Jessica). He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Taylor Black, Lane Black, Emma Black and his siblings, Don Black (Bev) and Sylvia Hawkins (Roger). In addition, he is survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Vickie Auton (Jim), Reggie Bridges, Aleta Logan, Angie Hawkins (Dean). He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews. Throughout his career, John ran Black's Service Station in Shelby, NC for over twenty years, retired from Shelby Fire Department as an Engineer after many years of faithful service to his community and enjoyed working part time at Mike Harill Tire in Shelby, NC. By his grandchildren, he was affectionately known as "Pop". In his free time, John enjoyed riding his Indian motorcycle with his friends and spending time with his family. He was known as a loving husband, father and grandfather. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 6:00 PM, Monday, May 9, 2022, at Poplar Springs Baptist Church Family Life Center in Shelby, NC with Andy Oliver and Tom Runyon officiating. An informal visitation will take place following the service.
