John Cephus "J.C." Charles, 89, of Tryon Courthouse Rd. died Tuesday August 17, 2021 at his residence. He was born in Lincoln County on May 3, 1932 a son of the late Grady Lawrence, Sr. and Bessie Williams.

Mr. Charles was a member of Rudisill Chapel AME Zion Church. He found great pleasure gardening, farming, horseshoes and hanging with his boys.

He is survived by his wife Reba Paulette Johnson Charles, sons Thomas and John Degree daughters Mary Hillman, Clarissa Williams, Lisa Charles, and Tammy Charles, stepson Aaron Johnson, brother Grady Lawrence, Jr., sisters Shirley Clemmons, Susie Krieger, Alice Villaflor, and Ann Perkins. He has eighteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, eighteen great great grandchildren and three great great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday August 25, 2021 at 1 PM at First Baptist Church, Cherryville with Rev. Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery. Quiet hour will be from 12:30-1PM at First Baptist Church. The family will be at the home at other times.
