John Franklin Lutz, Jr., 79, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2026, at his home in Fort Mill, South Carolina, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Cleveland County on November 26, 1946, he was the son of the late John Franklin Lutz, Sr. and Nancy Coble Lutz.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Ann Harry (Charlie), Susan Allred (Herb), and Gennie Carpenter (David).

He built an outstanding career in sales and was proud to work in his family's business, Lutz Furniture Company in Shelby. An avid sportsman and true outdoorsman, he was a national and state champion in trap and skeet shooting and found great joy in golfing, fishing, and spending time at the beach. He had a special love for dogs and cherished every one he owned. Above all, he enjoyed connecting with others. Johnny never met a stranger and was always ready for a good conversation.

Johnny is survived by his wife of 37 years, Katherine Quinn Lutz; his children, John Alexander Lutz, Meredith Leigh Lutz, Joshua Quinn Lutz, and Haley Lutz Gough; his grandchildren, Kayla, Courtney, Clayton, Tripp, and Wyatt; and his great-grandchildren, Cameron, Khylan, and Sophia.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 23, 2026, in the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Cemetery.
