Mr. John Henry Schenck, Sr., 95, formerly of 2150 Stoney Point Rd., Shelby, NC went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Peak Resources Nursing Center in Cherryville, NC.  He was born on November 21, 1917 in Iredell County, NC to the late Julius and Sarah Hogue Schenck. 

John worked for Burlington Industries in Cherryville for many years and retired from Eaton Corporation in Kings Mountain, NC.  He was a member of Washington Missionary Baptist Church and served as a deacon.  He also did many odd jobs for people in the community and the church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alva Jay Webber Schenck; sisters, Mayola Carson, Magnolia Carson, Gwendolyn Gaines, Marie Wilson, Lenora Sibley and Lorene Bridges and his brothers, Marshall Schenck, Robert Schenck, Ralph Schenck, Ray Schenck and Floyd Schenck.

He is survived by his children, Vivian S. Kelly of Southern Pines, NC, John Henry Schenk, Jr. of Shelby, Joanne Brower of Greensboro, NC and Alfred Schenck (Mary) of Centreville, VA; grandchildren, Tamara Hutchinson (Keith) of Greensboro, Steven Kelly of Hope Mills, NC and John A. Schenck of Centreville, VA; five step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a sister, Catherine Simpson of Lynchburg, VA; a brother, J.B. Hogue of Toledo, OH and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 22, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Washington Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Melvin L. Clark officiating.  Burial will take place at the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:00 PM at the church on Friday and at other times at 2150 Stoney Point Rd, Shelby.  Condolences can be expressed online at www.enloes.net.  Enloe Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
