SHELBY: John Thomas Bowling, or Tommy as his friends referred to him, was born on July 1st. 1939 in Shelby, North Carolina to parents Hiram W. Bowling and Frances Putnam Bowling. Tommy was a member of the National Guard and retired from the City of Shelby. Tommy was a member of Mason Lodge #744 and honorary member of all masonic lodges in the 35th. District and Oasis Shriners Temple and Scottish Rites 32nd. Degree. Tommy was a longtime member at Lily Memorial Baptist Church. Tommy was proceeded in death by his parents and his brothers Max (Bud) P. Bowling, Michael E. Bowling Sr. and Francis (Frank) O. Bowling. Tommy is survived by his wife of 60 years Sue (Susie) Carol Bowling, daughters Lisa Putnam husband Johnny and Carol B. (Sissy) Pearson husband Ronnie, Sister Jane Norman husband Bill, sister-in-law Ruby Bowling. Grand-children Jonathan W. Bowling wife Kristin, and Thomas Lee Pearson. Great grand-children Cody Green wife Libby, Logan Green, Presli Green, Jack Thomas Bowling.

Services will be held Friday, January 21st. 2022 at Clay Barnette Funeral Home with receiving friends from 10 - 11am followed by the funeral with masonic rites at 11am. Services will be officiated by Rev. Dr. Aubrey Folk. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park. Memorials can be made to Lily Memorial Baptist Church or the Shriners Children Hospital in Greenville, SC.
